| Your Personal Biography |
Yuriy Litvinov was born in the small town of Chervonoarmeisk, Ukraine in January 1982. He was four years old when the Chernobyl disaster occurred, the radioactive fallout having the most tragic consequences for the people of Ukraine. Cancer, severe birth deformities and skin disease became widespread among the citizens of the Eastern European country. Although Yuriy moved to Germany when he was eight and lived there for almost five years, he was not spared the fate of so many of his compatriots. At 19, Yuriy was diagnosed with cancer and told that he had only six months to live. Strong and resilient, Yuriy went through this nightmare with his eyes wide open. Believing that life had more in store for him, he battled cancer and won. After a life-threatening surgical procedure, Yuriy came to the USA and started a new life – one without illness, pain or suffering. Amazingly enough, Yuriy never studied art: his paintings reveal his most profound feelings. Provincetown winters first made Yuriy paint and suddenly he realized that it came natural to him. “My paintings,” he says, “reveal my inner world. Everything I feel is on the canvas. I never plan to paint – it goes spontaneously.” |
