| Your Personal Biography |
Michael Pukac is a Fine Artist who has painted for over 17 years focusing in acrylic and mastering a new technique involving reflective layering.
With the Slavic last name, Pukac (Pu-kash), was born in 1980 on the gulf coast of Alabama. He graduated from the Ringling School of Art and Design in 2003 in Fine Art. And he has traveled the country, making a living off of his fine art, murals, and illustrations. In the last 5 years, he has co-founded and organized 3 art groups to aid in the promotion of local artists and bring more art to the community, has hosted and curated art events, art walks, and produced other live performances in the US. He has had over a dozen Art Shows, starting from the age of 19, at least half of which were solo exhibitions.
Pukac's work has been said to be reminiscent of the old masters such as Rubens, Titian, and Rembrant. However his acrylic and reflective paint lends a fresh edge combining a classic style with a surrealist and contemporary composition. The subject matter ranges from an Art Nouveau, tattoo-flash figurative to a glowing fantasy of underwater sirens, muses, and gypsies that represent powerful women characters in history, Greek gods, and their harmonies.
Pukac's most recent projects include illustrating a series of children's books that have recently been published. And producing a collaborative avant-garde Art and Theatre Show entitled "Tableau Vivant Nouveau" which brings his paintings to life in an art gallery setting with performers, scenic elements, and music.
ARTIST STATEMENT: " I strive to make an image that both fascinates at first glance and compels the viewer to spend time with the painting. I hope that the more the viewer looks at the work, the more the viewer will discover. I make reference to many different eras of art history and to many different cultures and try to combine them in new ways that would still honor the original sources. I see my work as a kind of cultural aesthetic gumbo poured into its own reality, which is dedicated to honor the creative process. " Michael Pukac |
