Artist Statement:
Art is meditative for me, and
my work tends to reflect my
interest in Buddhism. I am
attempting to reconcile
impermanence, suffering and
human impact on our planet.
Additionally, I have a strong
attraction to abandoned and
ruined places. The histories
of these places, whether
imagined or actual, interest
me. The energy that these
places possess compels me
also, and I try to imbue my
work with the sense of what
attracted me to the subject
matter initially. Nature
tenaciously takes back these
places and creates a tension;
the illusion of distinctness
between manmade objects and
those less touched by man.
This tension is illusory,
because separateness is a
misperception. This
misperception becomes part of
the subject matter of my work.
The idea that there are no
separate objects, only
interconnectedness, is a theme
that I try to incorporate into
my work....
