| Your Personal Biography |
Rebekah Wilkinson has always had a love for the visual arts. As a young child her artistic ability was evident and encouraged by her parents. She pursued her passion for art throughout high school and, at the end of her final year she sold her first 2 paintings. That same year, she was the first to receive the St. Catharine’s Collegiate Institute Art Award.
Even though Rebekah won a scholarship to Houghton College’s (US) Fine Arts Program, Rebekah decided to stay in Canada and attend the University of Guelph, ON. Throughout her three years of study in the Fine Arts Program, Rebekah focused her attention on drawing and art history. In 1995, she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
After graduation, Rebekah married and moved to Oakville, ON. While staying home to raise her 2 children, Rebekah developed her artistry further to include logo design, desktop publishing and website design through RAW Designs, her home-based contract business.
In 2003, Rebekah returned to her passion for the visual arts and began painting with acrylics on canvas. Rebekah has shown her paintings throughout Oakville including the local libraries and restaurants. In 2006, Rebekah held her first exhibition with artist Amy Roger at the historic Sovereign House and was featured in The Oakville Beaver.
From January 2004, Rebekah was involved as a scenic artist on a variety of Oakville Drama Series productions. She worked on many of the large-scale drawings for The Oakville Player's November 2005 Vinci, production winner of the Thea Award for “Best Set Design of a Drama 2005”.
Following the May 2005 season’s Pride’s Crossing at the Oakville Centre of Performing Arts the first set of which Rebekah designed, she went on to design her second set for Yesteryear January 2006. This design was nominated for “Best Set Design of a Comedy” at the Gala of the Association of Community Theatres of Ontario Central Region. Then, in June 2006, Rebekah won the “Executive Award of 2006 for Outstanding Membership” from the Burloak Theatre Group. In 2007, she worked alongside award winner Jane Coryell as co-designer for the West End Studio Theatre Production of The Secret Garden, production winner of The Oakville Drama Series Award for “Best Production” 2007.
In March 2006, Rebekah painted 3 murals with Lyn Estall, calendar artist with Pine Ridge Art Inc., for the Oakville Parent-Child Centre.
In December 2005, Rebekah was elected to the Oakville Arts Council Board and became the Chair of the Communications Sub-Committee for the Council. Rebekah was actively involved with the OAC until her recent move to Westbank, BC in 2007.
Currently, Rebekah belongs to 3 community art groups – Livessence, The Painter’s Studio and Arts Westside – and enjoys exhibiting in their group shows. Rebekah is a supporting member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. Her paintings can be seen at the Wine Country Studios on Main, a custom picture framing and gallery, in Westbank, BC.
