Artist Statement for Reena Mary Thomas

I am a self-taught artist based in Dubai.After masters in Physics, I have over the last few years, taken to painting seriously.
I paint landscapes, which I consider to be my signature expression, into which I immerse myself. When I am painting my mind wanders through unseen places and it draws me closer to nature. I draw my inspiration from beautiful places, a certain event, but more often than not, nature in particular. Almost all elements of nature inspire me because nature is our ultimate source of information. In the process of experimenting with the vastness of the subject and the entire range of colours, I believe that my paintings have matured into an intricate interplay of light and colours. My paintings tend to display a sense of belonging to the autumn season and my love for nature. I like to impart and control a sense of depth, perspective, airiness, solidity, and a certain spatial relation to most of my paintings.
I also paint abstracts and semi-abstract landscapes. I primarily use acrylic paints on canvas or paper.
I like painting realistic, monochrome landscapes. I also love to paint abstracts. Of late, I have been focusing on contemporary socio- ecological issues like urbanisation, pollution and deforestation.
