Artist Statement:
Richard Corbett, artist
Art at Nature's Edge
http://www.axisweb.org/seCVPG.a spx?ARTISTID=10446
I am an artist based in Monmouth, South Wales.
It is the intimate and unforgettable places in Nature that I like to share.
Easter 2009 proved a turning point for me - I took a holiday in Tuscany, near Arezzo, in a villa surrounded by Olive Groves that every morning would be lit up by the spring light. I was also lucky enough to see the work of Piero della Francesca, it took my breath away. Since then my main focus has been, what deep down has been a lifelong love, TREES.
So, my most recent works have been drawings and paintings of Olive Trees; the hidden corners of English Gardens and Hampstead Heath; and, since December, Welsh Glades in the winter sun.
These special places give me the space to find calm in this frantic world. All I can hope is that within my artworks you can lose yourself like I did.
My next solo exhibition celebrates this.
‘In Leafy Groves and Glades’ is at the New End Gallery, 27 Carnegie House, Hampstead 6th- 11th April, 10:30am- 6:00pm Tuesday-Saturday, Sunday 12:...

| Your Personal Biography |
Art at Natures Edge I graduated in Printmaking from Norwich School of Art in 1994 and then taught in Suffolk for ten years. Inspired by a letter from Sister Wendy Beckett I moved to Monmouth in South Wales in 2005 to set up a studio. I have exhibited widely, with solo exhibitions in London, France and Herefordshire in the last year. I teach Art at Monmouth School part time and lead printmaking and painting workshops locally. The rest of the time I paint and print in my studio. ‘I am fascinated by the play of light in Nature; it defines the rhythm of the days and the space around us- evoking the spiritual within us. It is this that I try to capture.’ You can visit my website www.richardcorbett.biz to see more of my work .
I am currently working on paintings and pastels inspired by garden borders, the Welsh Landscape and Tuscan Olive Groves that can be seen at the New End Gallery in Hampstead April 6th- 11th 2010.
