Artist Statement:
Award winning artist, Roberta Rosenthal is a professional painter, illustrator, designer and art instructor. Her speciality is botanical and landscape images. Watercolor and gouache are her primary media. She also works in pastels, acrylics and oils. Her art has been commissioned for over 35 years by fortune 500 corporations, appearing in the New York Times, Horticulture Magazine, Fine Gardening Magazine, Avon Books, United Nations magazine, postage stamps for the Republics of Palau and the Marshall Islands. Roberta has exhibited her art in solo and juried group shows including the Horticultural Society of New York, American Museum of Illustration, The Asia Society Museum, New York State Museum in Albany, Sullivan County Museum New York and the New York Botanical Gardens.
“Botanical subjects, landscapes and spiritual culture are the elements of my art. I focus on floral studies and place them in spiritual locations. My creative process engages meditation, research and drawing studies merging towards the final painting. I use watercolor, gouache or oil media on paper or gessoed panel. The paintings contain many layers of transparent, translucent and opaque colors to achieve the essence of nature. Rosenthal is a professional fine artist with forty years of experience. Rosenthal has exhibited her Sumi-e paintings at the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum, Asia Society Museum of New York, Beck Gallery at the Sullivan County Museum, Wurtsboro Art Alliance Gallery and at A. G. Edwards in Rhinebeck. Rosenthal has taught sumi-e brush painting at the Catskill Art Society, Squirrel Nest Art Studio and at the Newburgh Jewish Community Center. Rosenthal also instructs botanical art at the Wallkill River School and the New York Botanical Garden. |
