| Your Personal Biography |
Rodman Johnson was tutored as a young boy by Frances Burnham Fish, graduate of the Sorbonne . . . and eventually tutored also by the President of the Guild of Boston Artists, Paul Ingbretson, 2nd generation student of William Paxton by way of Ives Gammell. His inspiration is culled from exploring the coastal landscapes of New England, travels in the United States and adventures in Europe. As a 'plein air' painter, Rodman seeks to establish a visual dialogue with his audience . . . transporting the viewer directly to an exciting moment of creation . . . the cool dawn of a tidewater marsh . . . a child's sunny smile. This same care is sought in portraiture as well, with special time devoted to knowing his subjects and their perspectives on living.
He paints primarily by commission, but has recently started a 'gallery collection' in order to make works available to all. When collectors are in search of a talented and capable artist for portrait or landscape commissions, their first choice is Rodman Johnson. 'Rodman is a genial and intrepid sort of fellow . . . always ready with a travel box, brushes and a palette . . . an enjoyable person to work with.' - Troy Andersen, portrait client. |
