Artist Statement:
Drawing and painting, alongside horses - riding or even just being with them, is what I enjoy doing the most!
I have always drawn for as long as I can remember... Since I was old enough to hold a pencil, about three or four, I couldn't help myself... I just had to draw... with a pen, a pensile a crayon whatever and on whatever came to hand including, to my parents horror, important "documents" that soon became decorated with my doodling... as long as there was some space I would fill it...!
After school I studied dress design, and worked in the trade for some years but, although I still do some designing, I realized (better late than never) that dress design wasn't my true vocation and took up drawing and painting again.
Painting is definitely a soothing task, it relaxing and it is very is satisfying to create and see the lines and the colours that emerge from the hand as if by magic.
The moment of painting can be excellent therapy, maybe because.... like when being with horses... you don't (with horses for safety reasons you can't) think of anything else, but concentrate on the ...

As well as the impressionists I am Also greatly inspired by the pre-impressionism of Turner by the renaiscence period, in particular Michelangelo's paintings, as well as the baroque period of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. |

| Your Personal Biography |
Maria Rosaria D’alessio is Anglo-Italian (born in UK of Italian Parents) raised in the the UK at the age of 32 moved to northern Italy where she is now living, and painting.
Studied Dress Design & Clothing Technology at Barnfield College of Art & Technology, Luton, Beds. Final year Debut at the London Academy of Art.
Worked as dress designer for various companies in London including Inega Jeans Ltd. Life circumstance influenced the deision to abandon the fashion scene & dedicate herself full time to the family. Now that the family is all grown up, a re-found passion for drawing & painting has inspired works in various media.
Rosa is currently studying the antique techniques of the “affresco”. An affresco is the application of natural pigments onto wet plaster (a fresco) so that the colours penetrate and dry with the plaster thus making it permanent.
Since living in Italy she has participated in various extemprary art exhibitions which include the Cŕ Bianca Club, Milan, and has won in an international competition one years wall space at the Soho Art Gallery, new York.
