Artist Statement:
I like the sensuality and depth of colour in oil paint. Painting with a palette knife dictates I loosen up and trust in chance; my aim is to assert the materiality of the oil paint on the painting surface.
I allow the paint to be itself before it is a description of anything, this establishes it's language and meaning. The painting becomes an entity in its own right, image and paint essential equals demanding I work a certain direction and in a way dictating where I shall take it to next.
Indifferent natural forces, colossal energy, sweeping light and storms shape limestoned Wales and Cornwall's ancient granite coastline where I "practice my craft and sullen art"*
