Artist Statement -

My goal is to create striking images that touch the viewer emotionally. I try to capture the essence of a subject or scene, so that the viewer reacts with an immediate recognition, and immediate click of Yes. I depend upon composition, simplicity, shape and contrast, as well as my own aesthetic sense and emotional responses.

I love creating art through photography. For me it is an opportunity for self-expression, a means of capturing a moment in time and creating beauty, as well as am important means of communication.

My education includes a Masters in Social Work and a BA in English Literature. I have done formal study in drawing and pastel, but my photographic study has been informal and self-taught. Since 1980, I have been a frequent visitor to Monhegan Island, 12 miles off the coast of Maine, a remote lobstering island with a summer artists colony. On Monhegan, I became friends with a group of painters and photographers. I applied what I learned from them to my own work. Those I am most grateful to include Frances Kornbluth, Leo Brooks, Robin Young, Judi Wagner, Josie Vargas and Nancy Stanich.

I show my art summers on Monhegan Island since the early 1990s, and year-round in the NY-NJ area. During the winters I like to use my work for the benefit of others, selling photographs to raise money for causes I believe in. And, as a clinical social worker, I volunteer some time as a facilitator for Gildas Club, a cancer support organization founded in honor of Gilda Radner.

Over the years I have done group and individual shows, and my work has been published in a variety of on-line journals and venues. My photographs are in numerous personal and corporate collections.

My photographs are always individually printed for each purchase, on Kodak Professional Endura Supra paper with a matte finish. I use a professional printing house to provide images that will last for generations. Colors will be realistic, whether robust or subtle. Black and whites have a graphic yet timeless quality. Colors may vary slightly depending upon your monitor.

I hand sign and title your photograph on the back.

To protect your photographs, I place it into a sealed clear plastic sleeve and carefully package it for shipping.

Two sizes and prices are as follows

8 x 10 image......60
11 x 14 image.....98
shipping is addl.

I can provide an acid-free mat for an addl. 12.

If you would prefer a different size, or have any questions, please get in touch.

Thank you and enjoy....
