Artist Statement:
Janis Mock-Jones
Artist Statement
“I think living in the west has a certain freedom and openness to it that has helped me to become a more inspired artist. I was born and raised in the Big Sky Country of Montana and there’s a WOW factor in Sedona and the Southwest that makes you want to create something of spectacular beauty. A static painting can’t possibly do justice to the dynamic nature of nature, but hopefully my art will evoke something close to the awe inspiring splendor I am lucky enough to experience every day.”

| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
I marvel at the beautiful skies of Arizona. Sunny, cloudy, rainy, sunrise, sunset - it doesn't matter. I love to capture them on canvas and use them as inspiration for abstract paintings, too. |

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I spent too many years in the corporate box and wanted to break out of that grey world. Painting lets me surround myself with and revel in color and beauty. |

Janis Mock-Jones
Juried member Norther Arizona Watercolor Society
Awarded 2006 City of Sedona Arts & Culture Commission Emerging Artist Grant
Sponsored artist for Javelinas on Parade, “Camouflaged-elinas”
Sedona “Art in Public Places” project artist
A graduate of the University of Denver, Janis Mock-Jones spent many years experimenting with various art media and techniques. In 2003, she seized an opportunity to become a full time artist in Sedona after a successful corporate career with The Washington Post Companies. She is currently focusing her talents on painting, photography, and the design of structural stained glass. Her experimentation with acrylic painting and other media is an exciting journey, and often involves different painting surfaces and textures.
“I was first attracted to acrylics because of the quick drying properties of the paints that allowed me to put my ideas on canvas immediately. Now I find it is more the versatility of the paints and the ability to manipulate the results that is exciting to me.”
“The southwest landscapes and colorful plants & cacti provide endless inspiration for my work. Plus, the dynamic artist community in Sedona challenges me to continue striving for something new and unique to incorporate into my creations.”
