Artist Statement:
From the outset of my formal art education, in the 1950's, (yes, I've been around a long time!) I have embraced fully the notion that art is the product of the culture of the day and a unique mark of the artist.
"No one else can but you ...

Currently planning hands-on workshops in my studio for four or five artists serious about kicking up their skills and artistic energy.
Very busy creating a fledgling business reworking imperfect and broken wood items to make collectible art. This opportunity to create income for several people in poor economic times has been a pretty good success over the summer months of 2010, during a serious economic downturn. I continue this online as I can at www.silkpurseproducts.vpweb.com |

| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
My great aunt, Elenore Abbott, whose paintings in tempera and oil adorned the house I grew up in. She worked boldly in an impressionist style that fed my drive to make my own marks with boldness and joy. Elenore Abbott painted in the early 1900's, in oil, tempera, and watercolor, illustrating many books published by Lippincott, including a large number of children's classics, like Alice in Wonderland, Grimm's and Anderson's Fairy Tales, and Swiss Family Robinson. Her art was collected widely in the Philadelphia area. |

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
Everything in me longed to be put into visual format. I drew and painted from a very young age, and Tyler School of Fine Arts gave me a comprehensive background that allowed me to pursue various facets of fine arts all my life. It is my chief joy to make art. |

| Your Personal Biography |
Born and raised in Wallingford Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia PA. Educated at George School, Newtown, PA, a Friend's Co-ed Boarding School, and at Temple University's Tyler School of Fine Art, in Elkins Park, PA. Received the Annenberg full tuition four-year scholarship to attend that college.
Worked as an advertising manager in the early sixties, and as a private school art department head in the sixties and seventies. Moved to Issaquah WA in the early seventies and worked for the first time in watercolors, which led to a ten-year career as a painter of people's prized pets and farm animals. Hosted a regular workshop with a shared model in my studio in Issaquah for years, with Open Studio shows and also marketing art through exhibitions and through local competitions, including the Pacific Northwest Arts and Crafts Fair. Received several awards in that venue.
My work is in collections over the United States, and elsewhere, and I have done commmissioned work, especially in animal portraiture, and figurative works.
During a ten year residence in New Jersey I worked in three dimensions, carving wood and stone pieces.
I now reside in the South Puget Sound area of Washington State, and am working with other artists to set up a website called ooothere.com (meaning Only One Out There.) This will feature one of a kind art of fine workmanship-- and be a sales venue, online.
My three children and grandchildren all live nearby, except for two grown grandchildren living in New Mexico.
