Biggest Artistic Inspiration I fell in love with classical art but was more intrigued by cubism and surrealism. Visiting the Art Institue in Chicago blew me away and I felt weak in the knees after seeing all those famous original works. My biggest inspiration was studying under Robert Venosa and still remaining friends with him and Martina to this day. They taught me how to oil paint and taught me master techniques.

Why Did You Become An Artist When I was six years old I told my parents I want to be an artist. I was never a good student in school but always won art awards. Sadly I went to military school for 4 years and had no formal art education until my second year at Iowa State. I bounced around 4 different majors but finally decided that art was the only thing I was ever good at. Traveling through Utah, Colorado and New Mexico changed me as a person and an artist. That's why I moved to Boulder Colorado and never looked back. Over the years I've had a lot of different jobs but once again art is the only thing I'm good at.

Your Personal Biography Born in the burbs of Chicago I survived 12 years of catholic school including 4 years at Marmion Military Acadmey. Upon graduation in 1989 I began to do triathlons in the Chicagoland area. I went to Iowa State University, grew out my hair and graduated with a bachelor of fine arts some five years later. I also have undeclared minors in journalism, advertising, art history, and telecommunications. My art was featured in several student shows and the Iowa Salon in 1994. After graduation I lived at home and was a line cook in a banquet hall. I made nothing but ate the best food and was able to get a show at a local coffee shop. That was a great success and I sold several originals and set up 3 commissions. That helped finance my move to Boulder Colorado in Spring of 95'. I packed up everything I owned and drove West with no job and no real place to stay. I settled for crappy retail jobs and roommates from hell but never stopped painting. I was able to show at the Gilpin Gallery in Historic Central City. I also met and took classes from Robert Venosa. I also got real involoved in cave exploring and helped survey many caves in Colorado, South Dakota and New Mexico. I completed my first Ironman triathlon in 1999 and to date have done 110 triathlons. Last Summer I lost my job of 6 years doing GIS work and that reopened the door to creating art. I've done more work in the last year then in the last 6 and even got a Gallery Show in Santa Fee St. in Denver last December. I'm currently still in the middle of my 19th triathlon season and trying to raise enough money to race in Phuket Thailand this December. Over the years I've gone from a military school brat to a hippie to a long haired goth to finally looking normal by age 37. I picked a strange path but am thankful I never stopped being an artist and an athlete. My newest adventure is starting my own business and going bac to school to get my GIS degree. I still need a real job that pays the bills and allows me to travel.
