| Your Personal Biography |
Sonia was born in 1977, in West Bengal, India. Sonia completed her BFA and MFA in Painting from College of Art, New Delhi in 2004. She has also worked extensively in Etching and Lithography first under eminent Indian printmaker Anupam Sud and then in Atelier 2221, Print and Edition studio. She received the Principal’s Award and Scholarship for outstanding academic achievement (1998-99), College of Art, New Delhi. Sonia was awarded the Gold Medal from College of Art and University of Delhi for outstanding academic achievement in MFA in 2004. She then became one of the youngest recipients of the National Award in Painting from the Lalit Kala Akademi (National Academy of art, India), Gov. of India, Ministry of Culture in 2005. Some of her recent showings include ‘Art Internationalism’ curated by Dr Alka Pande at Hilton Towers Mumbai in 2007, ‘Multiplicity and the self’ at Visual Arts Gallery India Habitat Centre, New Delhi in 2006, Curated by Dr Alka Pande, ‘Identity and Masquerade’, Curated by Anne Braybone at the Tate Modern Museum, London in 2006, ‘17/03’ at Bayer ABS Gallery, Baroda, ‘Imaging Materiality-gesture of the city’ at Visual Arts Gallery, Curated byDr Alka Pande ,‘Khirkee ki khoj’ multi-media installation project at Khoj International Artists Org.
