Welcome to Peter Warden's Portfolio.
Since my late teens I have been fascinated by the treatment of 'detail' in art. At one level this can be interpreted as the artist's attempt to reproduce as faithfully and accurately 'what he sees' in front of him. However, the process by which he actually achieves this, namely the types of marks he makes depends on a variety of factors. By the late 20th century mankind has become very sophisticated in his reaction to and his decipherment of an astonishing array of such marks.Indeed the PhotoRealist movement has thrown up such proficient practitioners that you might think there is no further one can go in this particular area. But the photograph has limitations in capturing reality or at least approximating the actual way we interpret the visual world itself.For myself I cannot be satisfied in producing a piece of work that is 'just like the photograph' of the scene in front of me.For all the effort I may put into creating a realistic image I am conscious that I have very great leeway in the way I handle mark-making.
