Artist Statement:
My recent paintings depicting ancient Indian architecture evoke a sense of nostalgia for the days gone by. They bear a close relationship with my personal life experiences including numerous visits to ancient places witnessing a long sequence of human and natural history. In my dreams, I view myself wandering in and around the ancient castles, temples, havelis, rocks and old banyan trees. I feel a strong bond with all these. Thus the element of time, mingled with mystery and the spiritual quest inspires me to paint. I paint with a mood of joy and wonder, with my own ideas about Art. My present style and technique is evolved from my past work, which was both realistic and abstract. I would like viewers to conceive my art in their own way, rather than imposing any thought, issue or an ideology on them. That is why most of my paintings are untitled.
My figurative works are a tribute to the village women of India who preserve the ancient Indian way of life and the fast vanishing traditions. The festive colors celebrate the richness and power of tradition that they experience in their lives.
