Artist Statement:
I am a digital artist, photographer, and painter. I began photography seriously in the late 1950's but turned to creating digital works beginning in the 1980’s, My involvement with digital imaging has expanded since then to include still images, digital video, 3D animation, and digital music.
My most recent work is from a series of abstract images which I call “pixel paintings”. First to create the work at all I have to apply the pixels by hand on a computer screen (painting). Moreover I zoom in to the pixel level of an image to feature the basic building blocks of a still digital imagery. At the same time I also create exact repetitions of groups of pixels which is another defining characteristic of digital imaging. Finally behind it all I am seeking to express my emotions which center around the great excitement I find in this digital exploration and the pleasure in creating mostly abstract shapes and colors out of pixels.
I was born and educated in California, and I was a Professor of Art at Cornell University for 27 years, teaching photography and digital art. I also served as Associate Dean and Acting Dean of the College ...
