Working to juxtapose common
items of refuse is the focal
point of my
collage/assemblages, an
exciting arena of evolution
and exploration for me. I
consistently sneak my
experience as a weaver into
new works playing within the
straight line grid that
weaving so brilliantly
employs.

I love using mixed media to
create abstract imagery. I
also love to explore the
visual wonders of scavenged
objects, discarded household
fabrics and plastics that beg
for a last dance in life.

The materials speak to me in
different ways so the work is
continually evolving and what
you see today may be very
different from you see a month
from now. So please stay
tuned, this is all a work in
progress.

Most of the cloth in these
works has been woven, dyed,
painted, and stiffened. All
of papers have been painted,
stripped, folded and
intermixed with cloth. Metal,
rubber, and plastic have been
scavenged, cleaned, oxidized,
and painted or coated. The
paints are unwanted house
colors, watercolors, fabrics
paints, and cold water dyes.

Only the frames are new.

Biggest Artistic Inspiration Artistic inspiration comes at all times, usually unexpected. Mostly I like to look at something and think about how it might otherwise be used or dressed up. I like the repeating patterns of nature and things like the back of fully loaded transport trucks. I am particularly ensnared by geometric shapes, especially the square.

Why Did You Become An Artist I became an artist because there is clearly nothing else I can do that makes me happy.

Your Personal Biography I have always been an artist although this went unrecognized for a number of years. I thought I was a psychologist and got a degree in that. Then I thought I was a teacher and did that for a few years. Then I sold houses to people who wanted them for some years. Then I raised children. As I navigated my way through these various endeavors I always made textiles and for a long time (15 years) I wove and sold textiles. Now I make mixed media pictures involving textiles and many other objects of interest to me. I plan to do so for a long time.
