Artist Statement for Sue Anne Hoyt

My primary concern is the use of color rather than devices such as linear perspective and modeling to create space and light.
I am interested in the spiritual capacity of art to encourage and uplift others. Color provides both a vehicle and a metaphor
for communicating spiritual realities. Beauty is important to me, not in superficial appearances but that which exists under the surface amidst ugliness and depravity. Rather than a romantic notion, I see visual beauty as an essential communication of reality and as vital to the human soul.
