Artist Statement:
Though various forms of beadwork have crossed my path throughout my years, it wasn't until I made the life-altering decision to become clean and sober that beadwork took on my life's ambition. Arts and crafts had played a major role in my life's upbringing, especially coming from a poor but extremely talented family background. My late father had been a Ferrier, a horse trainer, blacksmith; he also crocheted and did tatting, as well as being a silver smith, in his own right. I also believe he was the original ‘Horse Whisperer”, but that is a whole ‘nuther subject.
My Mother was a talented leather carver, knitter, and crotchetier. My older sister, Diane, was the queen of Macramé’ and my younger sister, Theresa, had the gift of clothier design beyond the normal comprehensible,………… especially in ethnic arena’s. I drew, painted, sculpted, and explored all the artistic mediums, ………beads became me, I become the beads, and beads have become my artistic voice.

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I don't believe you ~become~ an Artist, I believe you are born one. Art chose me, it was just up to me to find my true calling in a particular medium. |

| Your Personal Biography |
I was raised in the great Pacific Northwest. I spent my childhood years on a rather famous Lipizzaner Horse breeding farm (Raflyn Farms) located in Snohomish, Washington State. I moved to Georgia, in June of 1999. I grew up in a very creative family. My Mother did leatherwork and knitted. My Father did silversmithing, crocheted, and tatted...yes...he did tatting. My older sister macraméd, and my kid sister was and is a very talented seamstress.
Myself, over the years, I've done anything/everything creatively, drawing/paintings with pencil, pen, ink, chalk, oils. I've tried pottery/ceramics and other clay arts. If it's got a needle, I've done it as far as needle arts/crafts go. I was also a prolific writer of poetry, prose, and short stories with 27 publishing's in various anthologies and magazines. In 1978 I acquired two AAS Degrees in Architecture and Landscape/Environmental Horticulture.
I found my true artistic calling with beadwork in the 1990's.
I still do all my design work the tedious way, with colored pens, pencils, and my own custom designed/built light table on my own designed graph paper. Maybe someday I'll get the hang of one of those nifty computer beadwork designing programs...grin. |
