Artist Statement:
We are the mirror as well as the face in it.
We are tasting the taste this minute of eternity.
We are pain and what cures pain.
We are the sweet cold water and the jar that pours. Rumi
As suggested in Rumi’s poem, my style touches on the dichotomy of life and spirit. I enjoy the aesthetic play of contrasting extremes or opposites. The contrast of concept or object and materials is a favorite theme in my three dimensional work. I am also interested in exploring the psychology of the self, my own aging process, gender roles and expectations, as well as the social psychology of politics and religion. I admire Linda Ridgway’s work. She casts bronze into very difficult and very feminine forms, such as lace table cloths and crocheted clothing. She beautifully executes themes addressing domesticity and gender roles by using materials that suggest the masculine in forms that decidedly suggest the feminine. Similarly, in my latest work, I construct feminine or domestic objects from unlikely and often distinctly masculine materials. While I always start with a general idea for my work, I often work intuitively and am led by materials, circumstances, current events, or...

| Your Personal Biography |
I was born in Tallahassee, Florida and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. Now living in Atlanta, Georgia I am studying Sculpture at the Savannah College of Art and Design – Atlanta. My interest in the three-dimensional world began about twelve years ago with wheel thrown and hand built clay/ceramics as a creative outlet and stress reliever from a hectic corporate career. I studied clay/ceramics extensively around the country at Arrowmont School in Tennessee, John C. Campbell School in North Carolina, and Haystack School in Maine. Studying sculpture was a natural next step to expand on my previous artistic experiences and interests. I was one of the featured artists on Home and Garden Television’s (HGTV's) 'That's Clever' in Spring 2007. As former President of the Tucker Arts Guild, I was the subject of feature articles about the arts in Dekalb County in publications including “Up Close & Personal in Tucker”, April 2006 and the Atlanta Journal Constitution April 27, 2006. My work won honorable mention at the Stone Mountain Art Station and has been shown in a variety of art venues in Atlanta including Romo Gallery, MudFire Gallery. |
