Artist Statement:
I am an artist who has
recently moved from the
historic city of York in the
UK, to Atlanta, GA. Although
I am originally from NZ I also
have a strong connection to
Canada having lived there from
1990 to 2001. Primarily a
painter, collagraph
printmaking is a growing
interest.
My paintings are bold and
strong and usually large and
very colourful. I paint
everything from abstract works
and flowers to natural objects
and nudes but my recent work
has been focused on musical
instruments, in particular
cellos and saxophones. The
paintings range in size from
10 in x 10 in to 6ft by 4ft
and lots of sizes in between.
My work is about joy and
colour and is hopefully
uplifting as I feel there is
enough that is depressing in
the world without me adding to
it. I paint in acrylic and
mixed media and have recently
been experimenting with lots
of texture.
My printmaking work has
resulted in a series based on
the Kimono shape. These have
been great fun to work on as I
can combine pattern, colour
and asymmetrical design, which
I love.
