| Your Personal Biography |
From an early age I knew that art would be an integral part of who I am but its deepest roots took hold over 30 years ago, and began with a drawing class at a community college in California. That class was followed by another, techniques in ink. My earliest work was all pen and ink; thin and thick lines, stippling, cross-hatching and sumi brushwork, exploring what could be done with india ink, black on white. I declared a major in art and graduated in 1980.
After moving to Canada in 1983 I began adding watercolour washes to my pen drawings, many of which were animal portraits. That use of colour ultimately led to oil painting, and landscapes filled my canvases. Many years later I felt the need to create something more intuitive and personally expressive.
Moving away from oil paint in the late 1990's while taking courses requiring acrylics, my subject matter became less representational and more abstract.
I currently work in acrylic and mixed media and regularly show my paintings in group and solo exhibitions. |

People often ask me what inspired the images they see. The short answer to the question is just one word: Life. As my brush picks up paint something captivating is set in motion and what emerges on the surface before me is a reflection of the way in which I view and experience life. Nature figures strongly in my compositions and is a constant source of inspiration, as is music and the written word. |
