Artist Statement:
My work incorporates the use of various media including glass, wire and bronze. The work is diverse enough to create interest, yet is unified by weaving techniques and its concepts. Although my work is sculptural the majority of my glasswork is wall mounted thus utilising gallery wall space. I have also begun exploring the properties of light, through the means of light boxes, and how it interacts with my glass pieces intensifying their colour and texture. Most of my inspiration comes from the natural world in the form of found objects such as shells, stones, twigs etc and the effects of the natural elements on both organic and man-made matter. The textures and aesthetics caused by age and weathering are of constant fascination to me.This combined with the time honoured tradition of weaving and basketry is pivotal to my work. Over the past few years I have begun to encase these weavings in fused glass. Some of which have become extremely fragile in appearance, conveying a sense of fragmented cloth preserved in time.
