Artist Statement:
Jewelry is not simply an accessory; it is a metaphor for language, art, belief and a reflection of a state of mind. It establishes style and personality. The story behind my jewelry is not only the individual story of each piece, but also the larger story that lies within the realm of following my dreams. I have a passion to travel and experience other cultures, which strongly influences my work. I am interested in forms and how they relate to the space around them, focusing on the negative space created by the forms themselves. My goal is to find harmony between structure, practicality, and design while still creating pieces that inspire and bring gratification to the wearer. Each piece I create is one of a kind and personally hand crafted. ...

| Your Personal Biography |
I developed a passion for jewelry as a child when I would scavenge through my grandmother’s jewelry chest. Although I was always interested in design, I concentrated on math and science at Wausau East High School and went to the University of Wisconsin Madison to pursue a degree in engineering and physics. The pull of arts was too great to resist, however, and I changed my major, graduating in December 2004 with a degree in graphic design and an emphasis in art metals. While at UW, I had the opportunity to study metals under Lisa Gralnick, Catherine Gilbertson, and Fred Fenster. They taught me everything from basic metal fabrication to raising large pieces of hollowware. My artwork was highlighted in a gallery at the Madison Overture Center of the Arts in January 2005.
After graduation I traveled to Ireland where I had the opportunity to meet and work with Paul Kelly, a master goldsmith. My work continues to reflect my appreciation for the classic, elegant structures of Europe.
I have a broad interest in the arts, but my concentration has always centered on functional and wearable art. In 2004 I started my own business, entering art fairs and eventually acquiring my own studio. In May 2006 I attended Haystack School of Craft in Deer Isle, Maine. I attended this beautiful campus with artisans from all over the world. While there I studied under Harlan Butt to learn the art of enameling, which is glass fired onto metal. I was also exposed to professors from all over the country and experimented in everything from fiber arts to blacksmithing.
My jewelry begins as a sheet of metal, which I then cut down with a hand saw, solder, forge, and polish. The excitement that I feel being able to market my own designs has pushed me to keep pursuing my dream. I love to design and fabricate my ideas and hope that others will enjoy my pieces as much as I do.
