Artist Statement:
By using the human figure as a point of departure for sculpture I am trying to communicate an earthly, and emotional experience, an experience that could perhaps recall for someone an emotion or memory, or possibly generate a new sensation. We can all relate to the human figure, because we all inhabit one. The body acts as its own language, one of which is universal. We all occupy our own unique form, yet physically we share our makeup with all humankind. The work that I am producing is figurative in form and emotional in content.

| Your Personal Biography |
I began my college education majoring in fine art at the University of Oregon, where I realized my love for the ceramic process. Three years later I transferred to Columbus College of Art and Design, on scholarship, seeking a more comprehensive art education. It was there I received my Bachelor of Fine Art, completing my thesis in figurative ceramic sculpture. For the three years following my graduation I participated in group and solo shows in galleries in Columbus Ohio. In March of 2004 I received a scholarship as outstanding emerging artist to participate in the Winterpark Arts Festival in Orlando Florida. During 2004 I also donated a number of sculptures to such charitable auctions as the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and Cancer Research Associates.
I use primitive techniques such as smoke firings and pit firings along with natural colorants. By using the figure as a point of departure for sculpture, I am trying to communicate an earthly and emotional experience. The body acts as its own language. Although we each inhabit a unique form, we share our makeup with all humankind.
I primarily use clay for my sculptures because of its extreme diversity. When the clay is wet I can add and subtract from the form with ease, working and playing with the form, physically and mentally. Then the clay begins to harden and it can be broken to create varieties in the original shapes of the figure.
