Artist Statement:
As an artist and as a person I believe that life, the world and her inhabitants are basically good. In my paintings, whether they are of people, plants or animals, I strive to reveal this simple, yet universal, truth.
I am self taught. At the age of ten I picked up a pencil and began to draw portraits. My uncle Antonio Gattorno, who was one of Cuba’s Modern Masters, often gave me art supplies – pens, ink, charcoal, paints, canvases and even his own drawing table. But I never took lessons from him. My family did not want to impose on him. I would often study his paintings that hung in his home and the homes of my relatives. I continue to be greatly influenced by his work. He was known for his versatility and his ability to paint masterfully in a variety of styles. I am constantly experimenting with styles and developing my own sense of versatility.
I have exhibited paintings in the U.S., Greece and Italy.
