Artist Statement:
Every year Cornish artist Tom Henderson Smith creates a painting inspired by the summer festival in his town, St Just-in-Penwith, putting it up for auction as a fund raiser for this brilliant community event. “This is a wonderful time of year in St Just” says Tom “in particular the carnival atmosphere of Lafrowda Day brings the whole town alive and what a pleasure it is for me to celebrate the life of our community in paint based on the inspiration it brings me. I relish this opportunity to give something back to our very special town and hope you feel the same.” Every new bidder receives a free print of the picture. A range of prints of his previous Lafrowda paintings is also available at http://www.hendersonsmith.co.uk /Lafrowda2010auction.htm and of his landscape and seascape work elsewhere on his website....

| Your Personal Biography |
An adopted Cornishman, I grew up mostly in Yorkshire and was educated there and at Newcastle-upon-Tyne University (BA Hons. Fine Art 1971). Two years in Italy, initially on a Bunzl Scholarship were followed by seven living in Bath, training as a teacher in Bristol and starting out teaching in London. Moving to Cornwall in 1980 I worked as head of art at Mounts Bay School until the opportunity to relaunch my painting career came in 1999.
Able to take up painting again in the late 90's I found that, in West Cornwall, I was living in exactly the right place to do so, an area whose landscape and culture are second to none in the UK.
From 1972 to 1984 I held exhibiitions in Florence, Newcastle, Bath, Bristol, Plymouth and Penzance |
