Artist Statement
Tomoe Nakamura
I have been doing photography since 1997 and started learning painting since 2005. I have been travelling around the world and taking travel photography. I also became interested in conceptual photography since I started learning at art school from 2000.
I like to take fine art photography especially taking picture of reflection of window of modern buildings and capture interesting abstract design. I also take close-up micro still life mostly organic materials such as flowers, food, or modern architecture that is almost no longer comprehensively what it is, but more as abstract design.
When I started learning photography myself, I did not know how to make my photo different from others. I am still trying to find how my photography become art and original.
In painting, I am also interested in contemporary style that is large scale, close-up image of photorealism. I use watercolor, acrylic and water soluble oil paint. I sometime combine these with charcoal or pastel as mixed media. I paint from my own photograph because my I have better eyes with making composition with a camera.
Whichever natural or organic, my themes are not too social or politic, but just want to show the beautiful shapes, as though you see in a microscope, and appreciate natural beauty and human invention. Then, hopefully to depict about harmony of human life in nature from my works.
Please contact, tomoenk6@gmail for any questions for purchasing my art works and invitations for the exhibition, artist-in-residency.
