Artist Statement:
I work as a street pavement artist, or "Screever". With pastels and kneepads in tow, I create original street murals at festivals and special events.
Screeving has enabled me to earn an income from my art since I was 17.
Pavement Art is art for the masses.. it is created for the joy of the whole community.. Now it's getting hard to travel anywhere without doing a street drawing!.. makes me feel at home in the wide world. Since 1987 I've worked throughout Australia, New Zealand and Canada, and have also worked in England, Wales, Germany, Lithuania, and Japan.
The art is a performance,it out-lives itself in people's memories, but what I like most about street art is the way it can be a delightful surprise to strangers, a little sacred site in the midst of the grey city for all to enjoy...
My public work artwork is site specific, and I try to make it as topical and relevant to the audience as possible, favouring nature and fantasy as my themes.

Some articles I have appeared in this year, from my last New Zealand Tour...
"Nelson Mail" 24 January PG 11, colour photo and blurb "Meet the Buskers"D Manning. Nelson Busker Festival, New Zealand.
"Taupo Times" Front page 12 February 2002,colour photo/story. "Adding a splash of colour to the streets" S.Hoskins..RE:Taupo Arts Festival.
"The footpaths have come alive with colour the past week thanks to Ulla Taylor and a group of students. She has been screeving/street drawing since she was 17 and had traveled teh world with her box of pastels..and knee pads.
Ulla is in town as part of the Lake Taupo Arts Festival 2002.... The Australian creates (con)temporary street murals. "I choose environmental themes in my work, as the natural world is an extension of the sublime, greater spirit," she says.
Because she uses high quality pastels, and works them into the pavement, the artworks can last many weeks, sometimes months.
"I got an E-mail from Canada where I did a mural last year, it's lasted six months and is now surrounded by snow".....
Her Taupo work is based around the mountains and the lake, with a little artistic license thrown in. During the festival Ulla has also worked with students, helping them create their own works on the pavement."
