Artist Statement:
My embossed metal artwork
consists of intricate embossed
patterns drawn freehand into
thick anodized aluminum or
copper foils, often with
cutouts or different colored
inserts. I mount them on
pieces of roughly finished
slate or stretched canvas
frames covered with a variety
of rich, complementary
fabrics--such as faux suede,
leather and snakeskin; crushed
velvet and satin.
This artwork is designed to
draw attention from a distance
with its overall simple but
dynamic patterns and the
unique metallic sheen. As the
viewer approaches, the focus
switches to the intricate,
detailed patterns worked into
the metal. The artwork changes
appearance dramatically in
different lighting. It
especially comes to life when
displayed in soft, indirect
home lighting, which brings
the embossing out in sharp
relief and causes the metal to
shine with a liquid or even
electric intensity.

Although an American, I was born in Chile and grew up all over the world. I've worked in numerous fields, from laboratory rat handler to US Army infantry paratrooper to naturalist/guide in the Galapagos Islands to computer applications instructor.
