Artist Statement:
I work to communicate ideas of
preservation, decay and the
effects of time on memory,
thought and physical space.
Some of the mediums I use are
beeswax, eggshells, beads,
leather, rawhide and pigments.
I paint on animal skin hides,
prepared by by me by cleaning,
beating and scraping them to a
soft white, parchment like
surface. During the creation
of the art, the subjects of my
work are preserved for a time,
suspended at a certain point
of development or decay as a
snapshot of thought in a
life-long process....

Why Did You Become An Artist not provided

Your Personal Biography I'm an educator and artist who loves to work with natural materials - charcoal, pastels, acrylic and pencil on prepared animal hides. I am always exploring the intersection between my European and Cree ancestry through contemporary uses of imagery and materials. I studied Fine Arts at Grant MacEwan University and Graphic Design at Capilano University. In 1999, The Metis Garment Project for which I was co-investigator was awarded a Canada Council of the Arts Grant. This research has greatly influenced my work and I continue to search into indigenous topics through my Master's studies at Simon Fraser University in Canada.
