Artist Statement:
Vanessa is a London-based artist, having moved down from Manchester six years ago. She was originally born in Mexico, and was raised there for five years by her mother, a professional ceramic artist, whilst her father traveled for work. An artistic eye was in-built at a very early age as she sat and painted with her mother from the age of three. This, together with the bold, bright colours of Mexico have inspired most of her work today.
Vanessa pursued her artistic interests through school, art college and university and now is an Art Director in Advertising. She has been painting along side her Art Directing job for the past seven years, and her main ambition is for her art to be known and recognised one day. She tries to incorporate her artistic influence in her Art Direction, but whilst her work helps sell the product, is pleasing to the eye and has occasionally won an awards, there are still has many constraints, and the result is rarely organic. These paintings are her outlet of pure creative freedom. And she enjoys this very much.
Her influences are mainly from Mexican art, Pop art and various illustrators such as ...

| Your Personal Biography |
I am a new artist on the scenes of London, though I have exhibited pieces in galleries in Manchester’s Portico Gallery and Whitworth Art Gallery.
I have spent the past few years mainly expressing my passion for art through advertising as an Art Director (I have included a few pieces from my advertising portfolio, for your interest), whilst painting on the side. Now I am looking to make this more serious.
Most of my work is abstract, though occasionally I paint observational pieces. I love to experiment with different mediums, eg. broken mirror, beads, polystyrene, and mainly paint using acrylic, though I am about to explore oil paint.
My inspiration comes from nature, feelings, conversations and other artists. I love the freedom that comes with having a blank canvas and your thoughts. When working on advertisements creativity can be hindered by a brief, and thoughts of others. So painting gives me freedom, and I tend to use this freedom as much as I can.
