Artist Statement for Corinne Varon - Green

Born in Lima Peru, Varon has been a visual artist since childhood. She immigrated to the United States in 1972 at age 17 and has lived in the Boston-Cambridge Massachusetts area ever since.

Varon earned her BA from Brandeis University in 1976, her MA from Lesley University in 1992 and her Ed. D. from Harvard University in 2004. Art and education have been interconnected throughout Varon’s entire life.

This Fall, Varon is exhibiting her LOVERS and FLOWERS at the Latino Museum of Art in California. Last Spring, Varon exhibited an IRIS painting at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. Her first solo-exhibit was at the Boston Center for the Arts in Boston,. This event was attended by Massachusetts Governor Edward King. Other solo exhibits include the University of Texas in Austin, and the Brinkerhoff Gallery in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

In Lima, Peru, Varon had a solo-exhibit at the Borkas Gallery where she showed her series of shadow/drip paintings and photo/etchings.

Artist Statement:

My work is guided by three specific modalities: analytical, introspective and expressive. These three, although distinct, often converge into an overlapping design of romantic forms and interconnecting functions in each composition.

Through drawing and painting, I explore the multiple perspectives that lines can create, thus facilitating the expression of my intent. Within the flat surface, the construction of each composition chronicles my search for the dynamic and sensual relationships of flowing forms, emerging shapes, and interacting colors that are well-suited for my geometric style and visual language.

For the past decade, I have drawn and painted lovers and flowers representing impressions and mindscapes of the romantic and physical relationships of bodies that flow in form, merge in shape, and mix in color.
