Artist Statement:
My paintings are made very
intuitively and often seem to
fall somewhere between
imaginary landscape and
abstraction. I'm strongly
influenced by the limestone
and woodland area where I
live.
I paint using fast-drying
alkyd oils usually, using both
glazing or impasto techniques
often in a layered process to
achieve richness and depth. I
like to build a painting up
over time as moss and lichens
are left to grow over stone -
perhaps to trick myself into
believing that an image is
forming of its own accord!
It's also very important to me
in both painting and jewellery
making to have a strong
element of improvisation and
spontaneity in the process.
During the past four years or
so I've been learning to make
fine silver jewellery using
precious metal clay or pmc.
These pieces are one-off,
expressive and often highly
textural; sometimes patinated
to add depth, contrast and
variegated tone or colour
tints. Mid-Twentieth century
Scandinavian Modernism and
ancient jewellery are my main
influences.

Welcome to Amanda Collis's Portfolio.
My paintings are made very intuitively and often seem to fall somewhere between imaginary landscape and abstraction. I'm strongly influenced by the limestone and woodland area where I live.
I paint using fast-drying alkyd oils usually, using both glazing or impasto techniques often in a layered process to achieve richness and depth. I like to build a painting up over time as moss and lichens are left to grow over stone - perhaps to trick myself into believing that an image is forming of its own accord!
