Artist Statement:
I paint using alkyd oils and occasionally acrylics and mixed media; the forming of a richly textural surface is an important element in building up a painting for me. Drawing, particularly with ink pens, tends to be a quite separate activity for me from painting, so far; it's importance ...

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I didn't! I hope to improve in painting and silverclay craftsmanship/silversmithing skills, that's all. |

| Your Personal Biography |
Have lived in the countryside for most of my life.
I paint using fast-drying alkyd oils usually, using both glazing or impasto techniques often in a layered process to achieve richness and depth. I sometimes use acrylics mixed with impasto gel and textural elements, eg sand, to create sketches or an initial surface. Later I often bring out texture by working over uneven surface areas with a pastel, oil pastel, drier rubbed paint etc.
I like to build the paintings up over many months gradually, as moss and lichens are left to grow over stone - perhaps to trick myself into believing that an image is forming of its own accord!
I'm strongly influenced by the limestone/woodland landscape that I inhabit; but also probably as much by dreams, art history, alchemical imagery, myth, music and film. |
