Virga Siauciunaite is a Lithuanian artist who has been residing in California for the last sixteen years. She has been represented by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art for 9 years in their Emerging Artists’ Division. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art Rental and Sales Gallery organized the Virga’s show in 2000, during which her original monoprint collection was sold out and received wide acclaim.
Virga grew up and studied in the Soviet Union, where she received her Masters Degree in Fine Arts from the Art Academy of Lithuania, Vilnius. The artist’s exceptional talent was remarked at a young age and Virga organized her first solo exhibition at the age of 15. At the age of 19 her artwork was selected for the permanent collection in the Art Museum of Kaunas, Lithuania.
Upon her graduation the young artist was appointed an art professor at the Siauliu Art Academy, where she taught for ten years and worked on a number of highly prestigious commissions such as the 22ft relief panel in the Mayor’s office. However, in her early creative years the artist felt restrained by the Soviet Realism School and only once she immigrated to the United States, Virga has been able to have full artistic freedom. Today, the artist enjoys experimenting in several medias – creating her mystic monoprints and figurative paintings.
During her career, Virga has participated in close to 100 group and juried exhibits and has had 13 solo shows in United States and abroad. The highlights have included the Jacob Javits Center in New York City, the Kolibri Art Gallery in Palos Verdes, and the Ciurlionio Art Museum in Chicago. Her work is held in permanent museum collections in Lithuania and by collectors across three continents.
