| Your Personal Biography |
Wareco Martínez Díaz was born in 1950 in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. After having completed his art studies under renowned Puerto Rican teachers such as Augusto Marín, José Alicea,Rafael López del Campo, Fran Cervoni, and Rafael Ríos Rey, among others, he graduated from the San Juan School of Fine Arts with a major in Painting. In 1974 he received a scholarship from the Government of Puerto Rico to continue postgraduate art studies in Mexico at the San Carlos Academy of Fine Arts, adjunct to the National Autonomous University of Mexico,D.F. Under the guidance of his excellent Mexican teachers, Wareco discovered the process of pigment elaboration that he would further use in the development of his paintings. Upon
completing a Masters Degree in Painting he returned to his hometown in Bayamón, where he settled down and continued with his fructiferous artistic creation of oil paintings and drawings. He then was employed by the Puerto Rico Department of Education for the illustration of curriculum guides, manuals and other teaching materials, but, although his employment
has been during all these past years necessary to sustain himself and meet the needs of his family, he considers his work as a graphic designer more or less arid, uninteresting and tedious. Nevertheless, this stage has been a period of preparation or stepping stone ideal for reconsideration. It has been a time in which he has matured and improved his drawing skills
and ideas and expanded his horizons as an artist whose love for painting will always prevail. Wareco is presently discovering and exploring a new
artistic way of expression using digital techniques to create mixed media works of art, most of which have been exhibited in Puerto Rico, Spain, England, France, Japan, United States, Peru, Mexico and Uruguay.
