| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
For me to enjoy painting something it needed to show a part of that person’s life, a part of their soul. As such my themes were often of the Middle East and or more rural areas where people work hard and live difficult lives. The lives of these people come out in the work so much more than most western societies. However I didn’t limit my work only to them. I would search for a picture to paint for a quite a while for each painting trying to find the picture that would jump out at me and tell me to paint it. After a number of oil pastel paintings I finally moved onto acrylic paint. The acrylic paint was a good medium for me and I eventually developed my own style where I would paint quite thickly and mix the paints on the canvas as I worked. Similar in technique to oil paints. |

Vanessa Steyn was born in 1984 in Capetown, South Africa. She expressed a unique interest in creative fine art for the first time at the tender age of sixteen; even at this early stage her talent had already become evident. In the years that followed, her artistic abilities grew from strength to strength. After completing her studies at the Tshwane University of Technology, she pursued a career as a software developer creating online gambling games. Incorporating a distinctive style, Vanessa’s work captivates her audience with its dramatic essence. Bursting with passionate kinetics and dynamic energy, these paintings offer a complete, self-contained world that belongs to the artist alone. Inspired by the raw essence of her subjects, as an artist she has come to trust her perception painting based on the emotions radiating from the subject. Her art continues to surpass the bounds she has set for herself. Vanessa draws from the real world thus inevitably her paintings are of real people. |
