Biggest Artistic Inspiration Most of my career has been spent as an illustrator for publishers. Recently, however, I have begun painting what I call "soul paintings". It's a very prayerful way of painting that is new to me, and I'm still learning. Sometimes, I'm amazed at images and symbols that I end up with, either consciously or subconsciously. It's important to me, no matter what I happen to be painting, for me to recognize that God is the source of my creativity. I believe that if your heart belongs to God, then your art belongs to God. So, I simply try to be a vessel, and use this talent for a good purpose.

Why Did You Become An Artist I have been an artist for as long as I can remember. As a matter of fact, when I was young, I took it for granted. I began college as a psychology major, and was almost through, before I finally realized that a person should pursue what comes naturally. I am an artist because that's what God gave me to do.

Your Personal Biography Deborah has a passion for art and for nature. She and her family have traveled extensively throughout the United States, including Hawaii and the USVI, exploring, hiking, observing, and painting. Although she is based in Missouri, her artwork is varied in subject matter and influence. Deborah has benefited from yearly extended camping excursions into wilderness areas where she has been able to study, photograph, paint, and gain inspiration. Her most recent works are based upon time spent in the Yellowstone National Park area. Some works are done partially on site, and others are painted from her photographs taken in the wild and from the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone, Montana.

For most of her 25 years of working as a
professional artist, Deborah has worked
as an illustrator for various publishers
across the United States. She has also
been a teacher in the public schools, and
recently has returned to her first love of
painting and fine art. Her paintings are
a commentary on the beauty and complex-
ity of nature, rather than a realistic
representational recording.

Deborah has a B.S. in Education degree (K-12) in art, with a Psychology minor. She has been active in pioneering an artist’s organization in Springfield, Missouri which focuses on the spiritual aspect of art, and encourages and assists artists to reach their potential. She has also been active in events planning in the arts to accommodate the needs of these area artists.

Currently, Deborah and her husband are residing in Hawaii, where she is working on a series of paintings inspired by her time spent in Wyoming and Montana. It has been her privilege to draw attention to the preservation and protection of the wildlife of this area through her artwork. Limited edition prints and originals are available and more editions will be forthcoming in the near future.
