Artist Statement:
Words of Tokiko
Approaching senior year all struggles of life is turning to fruits.
I have lived through American experience as a Japanese American.
In my painting I record the world around me that echoes my life, unforgettable moments at the time of challenge.
I portrait the ordinary people who curbed the pavements,
rustled along the board walk,
Lived behind cast-iron-façade and
cultivated the settlement.

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I discovered I am nor the leader or the team player. I am independent and a lonely sole who's only passion is to paint. The other jobs I had in past made me misserable. I have no dream to be a millionare or save the world. My only dream is to paint the way I want and not had to live for the daily bread that interrupts me from create the work of art. I eat to paint. |

| Your Personal Biography |
My parents sent me to the art-class when my sister was taking piano. I have won several competitions through out the school years but when I was about to graduated from college, I fell in love with a man serving in American Air-force and married him. We believed love can overcome everything. At the fall of Saigon I came to US with my husband, a son and a daughter. Unfortunately the marriage ended in divorce. November 1980 I drove U-hall from Denver to Portland Oregon. Next 10 years I worked to raised 2 children alone while taking English as a Second Language and the Fine Art. 1997 I was diagnosed incurable disease in its final stage at the same time I was inherited. So I decided to live on art alone and make my dream come through while I can. Somehow my life lasted longer than the money. These days I continue pursuing creative art, won several awards, holding annual exhibit in Japan, enjoying having grandsons and living well.
