| Your Personal Biography |
Elena was born in the Ukraine before the collapse of the Soviet Union.
She was the worst student in her First Grade art class, but by her early 30s, after she moved to the United States, Elena started painting feverishly. This newly found talent was a revelation, even today she is puzzled and infinitely grateful for this. The act of painting, to her, is like a breath of fresh air, a pleasurable and necessary channel to express herself.
In 2005-2007, she lived and worked in Sweden. There, she had several exhibits and studied Scandinavian painters in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
She loves to paint anything that comes in sight, transforming what she sees through a prism of her background and perception, adding to it air of mystery and colorful melancholy. Elena has her favorite subject, it is people caught in the middle of a daydream. Elena coined her painting style 'mood in motion'.
Her influence sways from the old masters like Caravaggio, to the Romantic movement of the Pre Raphaelites (Millais), The French realists (Caillebotte) and Frida Kahlo to the realists of today (Lucien Freud). They all share a sense of drama and mystery in their work.
After her own late blooming exposure to the gift of painting, Elena firmly believes in the healing and balancing power of creativity. Elena shares her artistic talent with others when she teaches a children's art class in which her creative and energetic twins are involved. Elena volunteered in a successful painting workshop in Sweden with an idea of providing a creative outlet to busy professionals. She also volunteered in Devereux Center in Pennsylvania where she taught watercolor painting to adults with emotional and devellopmental disabilities. She is always open to more teaching opportunities.
For several years, Elena has been studying with the Brandywine artist, Karl Kuerner, Jr. |
