Artist Statement:
My approach to photography has naturally developed through
years of visual training and personal curiosity.
My interest in photography first began as a child, when I used my
camera on family trips and summer vacations. Since then my work has taken on more meaning and developed a journalistic approach.
As an undergraduate student at Washington University in St Louis I began using photography as a device for documenting images and creating art. As a graphic design major, I created photographs to enhance my designs and supplement my other artistic interests.
After receiving a BFA in visual communications I delved into
photography on a professional level. I began to use the camera to document nature and architecture, and explore textures and shapes. This approach created a stark contrast to my earlier photojournalistic work and forced to integrate the two opposing styles.
Works of both styles have recently been on display nation-wide, including various location such as the Inspiration Café Art Auction, Chicago, Il; A Bid for Stardom, Chicago, Il, Aware, Urbana, Il, and Graphic Design and Social Consciousness, Manhattan, NY.
