Artwork Description:
A unique abstract redwood sculpture depicting an intriguing pair of angular persons standing separately with elongated, pointed visages that peer forward together. Both of these dramatic persona forms emanate in opposite directions from a gnarled burl wood base configuration with polished geometric faceted wood accents. Some of the wood components are highlighted with yellow sapwood areas that provide a vibrant contrast to the red heartwood areas. As this sculpture is viewed from different positions, the observer will discover remarkable new visual characteristics.
This spectacular abstract wood sculpture has been created with numerous redwood burls which have been cut and carved with chain saws, shaped with grinders and hand crafted to further enhance the natural forms. After final preparation, the wood designs are assembled with multiple steel rods. The redwood components have been treated with a durable clear oil and hand rubbed, producing a matt finish which reveals all the natural colors and exotic grain patterns. Due to the nature of redwood burls, each sculpture is one of a kind and cannot be duplicated. Although it is possible to create similar designs. All of the natural redwood used to create these sculptures has been reclaimed from the underground portions of fallen trees which have been victimized from winter storms, landslides or forest fires, therefor no living trees have been utilized.
