Artists Describing Their Art:
Jonathan Charles - My medium is art photography. This means there is no claim of documentary realism - the pictures are created to present an idea but based originally on photographs and (mostly) having the style of a photographic image. I work in South West England and he Charente region of France. My subject is an exploration of beauty and dreams - I see more than enough of troubling reality to want to project it further. My work covers 40 years starting with B&W bleak landscapes through abstract nudes, portraits, dance & theatre to the added dimension of colour and emphasis on personal experience and subconscious mythology. I am always improvising, trying to learn from the images and people's reactions to them. My own website is a portal to my longstanding photo.net gallery which includes a lot of background information about the images. I also have a blog which I have just re-activated. I plan to add the stories behind many of my photo series, old and new. More of my work can be seen via my website:
Katja Liedle - Photography is a way of connecting with the world around me, capturing its more unusual nuances from a subjective point of view. This created a style which focuses on colors and forms and highlights tiny details thereby abstracting from everyday reality. focus * motto: close up * natural and other details * colors, forms, structures, patterns * abstractions * experiments with forced and cross processing ...
Pamela Henry - I am a Photography Artist. My process crosses analog and digital borders. Initially my images are captured on film, slides or digitally. I use a range of techniques from cross-process development and polaroid manipulation to digital painting, collage and layering to create what you see here. If I were to condense my thoughts on photographic expression into a single phrase it would be "in the moment". The moment begins at first sight and is complete when I release the shutter, lift my stylo from the polaroid, or remove my hand from the mouse. I know I will relive that feeling each time I look at the image, like a song or a smell that transports you to another place and time. This photographic expression translates beyond verbal expression and rests in your being, invoking a subjective reaction based on your experiences. Herein lies a collection of such moments. ...

Dragutin Barac - "The eyes are reflection of the soul" So and my art speaks about me. Sensitive and refined sense of observation created me as the artist with both, painting and photography skill.I started paint in watercolour technique. After I visited London and Amsterdam, where I spent three years, I slightly changed my view of life; started with another approach of art - PHOTOGRAPHY. Spending most of the time in different places, mainly by nature, I become fascinated with Mediterranean mysticism what is everywhere visible. Walter Spaeth - Walter Spaeth was born 1952 in Munsingen / Germany Ever since he was a very young boy it has been one of Walter Spaeth`s dream to express his ideas and inspirations. And so it doesn`t come as a surprise that photography soon attracted his attention. At the age of twenty he discovered the creative and technical possibilities of this medium in the black-and-white lab of a friend and began thinking about how it could help him realize his dream. In 1972, though, photography was far less sophisticated than it is today. It proved to be an advantage, as Walter Spaeth spent his first years concentrating on the basic techniques and principles of composition. He thoroughy learned the craft and perfected his skills. In the mid-90`s then the full extent of his creativity became apparent. Computers made their appearance in the photo scene and allowed the editing of pictures, something which Spaeth started doing with great fascination and success. Between 1990 and 2000 Spaeth won more than 30 awards, including Deja-GmbH's 10 000 Mark "Take care" award, which he received in a festive ceremony at the Photokina 2000 in Cologne for his excellent ...
Bruce Lewis - I have been making these "Fractured Fotos" for a number of years now. My fascination of random placement in the picture plane lends itself to this technique. You can see that the negative space plays just as an important role as the colored areas. If you can imagine a group of picture cards thrown on the floor and they just happen to make a recognizable image, that would be the random act I seek. The traditional techniques of the darkroom have given way to the lightroom and computer assisted process. All images in this gallery are totally digitally rendered. These Giclee prints are made with pigmented inks and archival paper, giving the photograph an exhibition life of 200 years or more....

Steve Buchanan - My work has primarily dealt with details of common objects. Lately however I've been focusing more on wider views and showing idealistic and anti-idealistic views side by side. I respect the power of so called "pretty pictures" and the emotional affect they can have on people but at the same time I'm concerned that pretty pictures, especially nature photos, lull viewers into a sense that everything is good. Everything is not. I propose no solutions but work hard to inform about these problems. Information is the first step in correction. Watch this space for more....
