  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Kikuko Sakota - The recent themes of my paintings are imaginative world coming into my mind, while walking in hills and forests. Fresh air, smell of leaves and soils, color of greens, and singing of birds make me recall fairy tales: the witch living in the woods, dwarfs playing music, and so on. It is my bold attempt to interpret invisible but natural miracles into picture planes with my skills focusing on color employment, brushstrokes and composition for those elements. Please check out my website:

Timothy Scott - Breaking free from old bonds and going toward a new personal style. My watercolors have always sold well, but recently I have decided to move away a bit from my watercolor paintings. I had my own unique handling of the medium, but it was time for a change. But where does a new way of creating art come from? If I choose to paint in an abstract way I truly believe it must come from within, not from a starting point previously explored by others. Let me explain that I am a good realist. However, my abstract work starts from a different place, a different perspective. My new style has been helped along by a series of serendipitous events. First, years ago I met Delores Fortuna in Oak Park, Illinois. She is a wonderful potter who had a studio 3 blocks from our house. I took many classes from her. Loved clay and even better, porcelain clay. I liked the whole process from wedging the clay, to throwing the forms to glazing the bisque fired pieces. When my wife and I moved to Virginia. I found a used kiln and wheel down here and did some pottery. At the same ...

Susan Baquie - My art work varies in style as it is the result of experience and observation, as well as formal studies. From a type of surrealism to expressionism, sometimes more realistic and at others abstract in conception, many of my pictures reveal a psychological awareness, at times a depiction of trauma, and at others, the joys of colour, pattern, design and the flow of paint or ink across canvas or paper. Painting is like life itself, a constant mirroring of energy, a dynamic pouring of the soul onto two dimensions. It can be caring or selfish, it can be political, humanistic and even cruel. It is a way of life and as with poets and writers, often a happy work and often hard. It is wonderful to be able to show work on the Internet in this way. ...

Monica Malbeck - I was born and raised in Romania, attending art school there. I graduated in 1974 from a highly successful art pilot program at age 18. Where I was offered exposure to all facets of art from visual communications to industrial design. This was followed by a successful career in fashion design with clients throughout Europe, U.S., and Japan. In 1990 I moved to the United States, and in 1996 I was introduced to digital media falling in love instantly with its versatility. I have been exploring digital design since then, trying to mix digital color and the illusions of texture and shape to capture fleeting, momentary thoughts and my feelings. My style varies depending on the subject being captured, as I always try to let the subject dictate the style rather than try to impose a repetitive style format. I have retired to Hawaii very early from a career as a fashion consultant, and decided to focus on art. My very first submission of my artwork to an international competition in Italy, was chosen among the finalists. I am a self-taught digital artist, and I like to explore a broad range of subjects. In my gallery you will...

    S. Josephine Weaver - WHY AN ARTIST? WHY A PAINTER? "Some gifts are not given: you are delivered to them, bound by chains of nerves and genes stronger than iron or steel, although unseen." "You never know the force that drives you wild to paint that sky, and that bird flying, and is never satisfied but maybe tomorrow..." From: To A Daughter with Artistic Talent - J. Peter Meinke ...

David Cuffari - I approach my work as a visual poem. Sometimes the meaning is simple and direct and other times it's more complex. I prefer to create work that is open-ended allowing the viewer their own interpretation of what I present. I am primarily a painter preferring to work in acrylics as it allows me to make rapid revisions which helps keep the work fresh and immediate. The over-arching theme of my artwork is the human condition. I see the fabric of life as woven in opposites. By employing dualities like order/chaos, rough/smooth textures, themes of life/death, controlled effects/happy accidents, rational/irrational imagery, I try to paint interesting pictures that allow the viewer to see the world a bit differently. I am also interested in the notion of time. I don't believe that time is linear but more like an echo. I try to avoid static imagery preferring to create a complex painting that unfolds as you look at it, with layers of imagery and meaning. I do this by preserving the process of editing and revision as I arrive at the final image. Most recently I've been proceeding without a pre-conceived ...

Troy Whitethorne - "to create, is to put your soul, on paper,!" i love still life, cultural art, abstracts and nudes. My passion for art, is number one on my list, i love art, and its a way to express who i am.......

Miri Chais - I create crossbreeds, and connect intricate, surrealistic "light-bearing" objects, luring the viewer into a world of fantasy and imagination. This combinations and fusions generate an illusion, introducing new perspectives which orient and move toward the light. I am interested in exploring and uncovering the poetic elements built into the technological world, while striving to transform the resulting research data into a visual display. It is an investigative process committed to asking questions, probing, and attempting to comprehend the world in which we live, the possibilities at hand, and the expectations for the future. The relationship between information and meaning arising from the works is associated with acts of subtraction, addition, and equation of the different fields of knowledge, while breaking free from the fetters of concreteness, duration, and memory, and taking the liberty to create a new space of operation. The displayed information and the visual capacity discernible in my works sustain a system of equilibrium and a delicate balance between object and image, artist and inspiration, setting and dream. Each work is based on a dialogue between figure and setting, tracing the embodiment of informative concepts and the object's ability to convey and transfer them, as they ...

Lavih Serfaty - Lavih Serfaty is a multicultural artist. The works are on canvas, paper and aluminum. The painting are in acrilyc and water color. The latest painting are painted on aluminum with acrylic color. The use of bright and mono color is a result of a deep learning and understanding the power of the colors as it's affect people. The color can change the atmosphere of the environment, can heal our soul. The use of the right color in the right place can bring new and pure energy in our home. "I use the theories of color therapy, "feng shui" and "chakra energy" in my painting. The idea of making those painting is a result of long period of meditation and listening to music. Then I decided to paint with just one color according to state of mood I am, after I meditate. The aluminum is folded before I put the color on. When the painting is hanging on the wall, the color change as the light is changing during the day, the shade accentuate the color and change them to deep, darker or lighter. It's fill the room with bright and clear energy. The colors I choose are from ...

Lavih Serfaty - Elena Zhogina - I am a self taught artist in love with what I do. I love research into form, color, texture, styles and fantasies. I am a self-made artist. In contrast to classical school of painting I use intuition and feelings to express myself. For me the world of painting allows to find my own way of self-expression and reveal my true personality. Some paintings start from one idea but with time discover to me new things. They bring harmony and happiness into my life. I am focused on drawing/painting portraits/people and various types/styles of motion. There are several symbolism works in my portofolio describing certain period of my life and my reflections thereon. Its a pleasure to share it with you ...

Dulz Cuna - PAINTINGS I mounted my brains up on the wall I've framed my sorrows in advance I kept my joys free-standing on the hall All in an captured stance I've lost my mind to endless love I cried my heart on dampened tombs I tasted ambrosia rain sprinkled from above That sweetened my bitter womb Diluted I was in a marbled sea Of colors dabbled by the Master's brush Told to tone down and be solvent-free To picture the worldly and crass My nights are stacked in fever's pitch My noons vapor the dizzy rhapsody The evening stars within my reach Are drawn in geometric parody From drafting board to taut canvas I transform the visual to evocable Vacillating choices of media wanderlust On mystic hearts hid or palpable My paintings' sparse but my heart's a gallery Chambers browsed from paranoid to sublime From room to room in curated history Hung unauctioned, yet wanting time Dulz2004...
