Lorie Setton is a creative painter from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she currently lives and works. Her large-scale compositions place realistically painted objects in abstract and atmospheric environments, treading the line between real and imaginative. Her work focuses on different manners of color, transparency, and light reflection and alludes to objects that are recognized not by what they look like, but what they do, such as reflecting glass and undulating fabrics. Exploring many different processes in her work, her blank canvases often begin with delicate layers of splashing, staining, and dripping, and end with careful and repetitive detail- a contrast that directs and confuses the eye at the very same time. As if in a constant flux, Lorie’s work simultaneously asks the viewer to take a step back and observe all at once and step forward to study layer by layer....
