Artists Describing Their Art:
David Herold - Welcome to my portfolio! My name is David Herold and I live in historic El Paso, Texas. I recently got back into art after a brief 30 year absence while pursuing a hectic career in Insurance and Financial Planning. One morning I woke up and decided that I didn't want to do that anymore! I graduated from New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico in l972 with a double major in Art, History, and a minor in business. I studied art under world renowned oil painter, Elmer Schooley, and water color artist Ray Drew. I grew to love water color and was drawn to Native American faces and figures. The Native American history is sad and overlooked by many. The culture, traditions and customs facinate me. To be able to hang on to your culture in this day and time is truly remarkable. I learned that you can tell a lot about people in my former career. I met with literally thousands of differnt people in that 30 year time frame. I learned that you can tell alot from their eyes. You can detect joy, happiness, sadness, horrow, truthfulness, and yes lies. Believe me when I say,"...
Fred E. Salmon. Jr. - The ultimate interest I am after in delineating the nude is to capture the image of the model in its simplest terms but yet establish a statement of expression incorporating gesture, mood, value, line variety, edges, modeling, and design. As in any of my attempts at creating art in any medium, a stir of excitement precedes the process. There is a certain sense of anticipation and anxiousness in me for a good drawing at the outset. Given the time constraints, I work rather quickly but methodically in that I usually start at the top and work down progressively employing techniques that will impart the greatest effect with economy of means. Once the timed session starts, I am keyed up a notch and my mind races with a multitude of questions as I am constantly talking to myself in resolving drawing issues and making lightening-quick decisions. There is a rush when things are going well with ease and it seems as if the drawing were drawing itself. However, some decisions become ill choices and the drawing is in crisis, while other well-intended decisions are executed poorly. I seldom use the erasure in these situations because it slows me down ...
Roderick Brown - Roderick (Rod) Brown was born in Western Australia. Rod spent his first 30 years in an arid and remote gold mining town. As a youngster he remembers the great freedom he enjoyed surrounded by the stark but vivid images of the mines and surrounding bush, which he regularly explored. Rod as a child watched his father paint in oils and sketch, in charcoal and ink, portraits of local identities. The early seeds to later pursue art were sown at this time. Rod has enjoyed living with his family in Australia, Europe and the USA. During this time he has visited over 40 countries around the world enriching his life and building on the foundations acquired in his hometown, which was a very multicultural society. Rod decided to explore his artistic leanings taking up oil painting while living in Sydney. At that time Rod was a member of the Castle Hill Art Society and The Hornsby Art Society. Rod took up watercolour painting in the early 1980's, which has been his preferred medium since. Rod has exhibited at many public shows particularly while living in Sydney and has over the years painted commissioned portraits. Rod has paintings in corporate and ...
