Artists Describing Their Art:

Bryan Kemila - Artist Statement Bryan Kemila ------------------------------ PENDING ------------- BIOGRAPHY Bio - Bryan Kemila - Watercolour painter - Acrylic painter - Oil painter - Sculpting - Critical observer of current events. - Nothing on the planet is quite as compelling as the woman. I was born in Dinsmore, Saskatchewan, Ive learned a number of skills. The list includes small engine repair, electrical wiring, construction, furniture building, commercial painting, sign painting, commercial graphics, logo design, bookkeeping and small business practices. As it turns out, the brush control and lettering skills improved. After 2 years of consistent practice, I realized my efforts surpassed the samples in the books. Gratitude must be given to the instruction on layout and design in The Mike Stevens Journal. I launched my own sign business, which I consider a successful enterprise. In my early years, sign painting involved simply a small tin of poster paint and a grey-squirrel tail brush. Back in the day, grocery stores used hand-painted, large paper banners to advertise their weekly specials. So I was good to go into business with minimal overhead When I retired just this past year, the sign business had since evolved devolved to computer software, vinyl-cutter equipment and stick-on letters. Layout and design still remain ...

Eve Co - I began painting and drawing in 1987 and have not stopped. I have a wide range from, landscapes, still-lifes, Hubble art galaxies nebulas, abstracts, florals, architectural art and so much more. I draw every day and paint as much as I can afford. I paint more watercolors than acrylic and oil canvas art. I would prefer more canvas art, but I make do with what I have. I try to express myself in artwork as well as with words. I paint landscapes, the glorious colors of nature, water, the ever expressive sky and more, primarily with watercolors on paper. These paintings are usually thought out and planned because they represent nature as I see nature. I paint still-lifes of everyday objects. To teach me about one particular color, shading and or painting glass. I think of still-lifes as a learning process that literally has me pulling my hair out in frustration, but I still paint through how they make me feel... I am fascinated with Hubble Space Technology so, I paint galaxies and nebulas on canvas with acrylic paints. I have sold many of these paintings and I must admit they are some of my favorite subjects...

Philip Hallawell - I work in various media: oil, watercolor, dry pastels, pen and ink and mixed media. My work is a result of a fragmented view of the world, which gives it a surreal quality. However, my process is not surreal, because I start with a definite theme that I wish to investigate. My main area of interest is people and the human form and I am constantly investigating the physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual aspects of Man. Over the years I have developed various series, which I revisit periodocally, investigating different aspects. In purely visual terms, what fascinates me is light and form and how I can use diverse visual elements in a complementary way, opposing, for instance, line and form, or rough and smooth textures. The use of diferent materials to achieve diverse expressions, either alone or as mixed media, along with alternating between a graphic representation and a painterly one, or mixing the two, is a very important aspect of the way I materialize my thinking into images. Equally important is the transition from very realistic images to a totally abstract means of expression and alternating between control and expressiveness....

Diane Kastensmith Bradbury - I love the spontaneity and freshness of watercolor - especially the "accidental" movement of color that results from painting wet into wet. I usually start with a wet into wet technique, and work through all the stages of the paper, until I am painting wet into dry. I often soak the painting in the bathtub overnight to soften the edges and lighten the colors, going back in the next day to sharpen details and brighten or darken colors where needed. I repeat this process until I can see that the painting is finished. I believe the record for the number of times this was done was a painting I sold in 1985, called "Blue Tree". It had been soaked twenty-two times before I was satisfied with the result. Of course, high quality paint and paper are essential to this process. "Seasons ...

Carol Griffith - My oil paintings are meditations triggered by places or situations in my memory, arrived at through a sort of daydreaming state of mind. I attempt to evoke that mood in the handling of the formal elements of the painting, especially the color and the perspectival point of view. I wish to create both a believable place and the sense of something more significant behind it. The viewer, in contact with the painting and their own memories, may then project into the space and experience the significance that I sensed. This approach has led me to an interest in souvenirs. I see them as an attempt to capture a special place or experience in concrete or symbolic form. By doing paintings of my own remembered places and experiences, I have been following a parallel path. I like the comparison with one purpose of art. I use borders in some of the paintings to function simultaneously as framing devices and as an arena in which to create a dialogue with the internal painting. The borders also extend the meaning of the internal subject. Memories often consist of simultaneous kaleidoscopic vignettes that, in combination, embody the whole, original experience. Each vignette is also ...

Hanne Lore Koehler - The unique contemporary style, a sort of impressionistic realism, of Canadian artist, author illustrator, Hanne Lore Koehler has developed naturally in her watercolors, oil and acrylic paintings. Choose from a wide range of subjects including action-packed sports art, energetic portraits, landscapes, still life, fantasy and children's book illustrations or commission a custom painting. "I have splashed powerful action sports on watercolor canvases for the Canadian Olympic Association and stroked a gentle brush to capture elusive moments of light and mood on oil canvases for private and corporate collectors. My subjects are as varied as my interests and I adjust my style to suit the mood of my subjects but the finished painting always exudes my love of life. I try always to remain true to my objective and motto: to satisfy the eye with form, the mind with purpose and the soul with imagination". ...
